TRB conducted a webinar on August 24, 2015, from 2:00pm to 4:00pm ET that presented the main mechanisms responsible for reflective cracking. Webinar presenters also introduced an evaluation of different mitigation strategies based on past research and evaluation studies.
Reflection cracking is a serious challenge associated with pavement rehabilitation. Practical experience shows that reflection cracking propagates at a rate of one inch per year. State agencies have evaluated different types of cracking mitigation strategies, such as interlayer systems, saw and seal, cold-in-place recycling, and “rubblization,” which is a construction and engineering technique that involves reducing existing concrete into rubble at its current location rather than hauling it to another location.
This webinar was organized by the TRB Standing Committee on Pavement Rehabilitation.
Participants must register in advance of the webinar, and there was a fee for non-TRB Sponsor or non-TRB Sustaining Affiliate employees. A certificate for two Professional Development Hours (PDHs) was provided to attendees who registered and attended the webinar as an individual. This webinar has met approval by the American Institute of Certified Planners for two Certification Maintenance Credits.
