Transition zones are often problem locations for speeding, which occur on rural roadways entering small communities and at the interface of rural land with ex-urban, suburban, and urban development. The presenters for this webinar were authors of the report and have also worked on other similar research projects on speed related to roadway countermeasures.

- Design Guidance for selecting geometric design, traffic control devices, pavement surface, and roadside treatments for transitioning from high- to low-speed roadways on rural highways. (Torbic)
- Overview of speeding problems in small rural communities, considerations of traffic calming in these communities, and countermeasures evaluated for the speeding concerns. (Hallmark)
- Human factors considerations—including challenges of speed adaptation and drivers' estimation of self-speed—that designers and traffic engineers should understand when applying high-to-low speed transitions. Human factors considerations will be linked to principles that may be used for designing the speed transition zones. (Forbes)
The first 60 minutes of the webinar is for presentations and the final 30 minutes is reserved for audience questions.

- To gain a better understanding the design guidance for transition zone segments in NCHRP Report 737.
- To become informed about research completed on speed-related countermeasures, as evaluated on rural roadways entering small rural communities.
