TRB conducted a webinar on September 17, 2014, from 12:00pm to 1:30pm ET that explored recent advancements in software-assisted calibration and sensitivity analysis. Webinar presenters discussed the basics of calibrating microscopic behavioral sub-models in traffic simulation models when using disaggregate data, as well as presented the basics of calibrating demand and supply aspects of traffic simulation models, including basic methodological elements, algorithms and tools, and case study results.
A certificate for 1.5 Professional Development Hours (PDHs) was provided to attendees who registered and attended the webinar as an individual. Contact Reggie Gillum at
RGillum@nas.edu for instructions on receiving a copy of the recorded webinar.
Webinar Presenters
- Vincenzo Punzo, University of Naples Federico II, Italy
- Constantinos Antoniou, National Technical University of Athens, Greece
Moderated by: George List,
North Carolina State University
Webinar Outline
- PART 1: Calibration of microscopic traffic flow models using disaggregate data
- Basics of calibrating microscopic behavioral sub-models in traffic simulation models when using disaggregate data
- Basic methodological elements concerning calibration and sensitivity analysis, algorithms, and goodness-of-fit functions
- PART 2: Demand and supply calibration of traffic simulation models
- Basics of calibrating demand and supply aspects of traffic simulation models

The first 60 minutes of the webinar will be for presentations and the final 30 minutes will be reserved for audience questions.
Learning Objectives
At the end of this webinar, participants will be able to:
- Discuss the possibilities and ramifications of using software-assisted calibration;
- Identify the advantages of this technology for use in calibrating traffic simulation networks;
- Demonstrate state-of-the-art techniques for calibrating traffic simulation models when using disaggregate data; and
- Describe the principles of calibrating demand and supply aspects of traffic simulation models when using various techniques and algorithms.
