Active TRB Volunteer Ann August passes away
The transit community and TRB are deeply saddened by the passing of Ann August, who was executive director of the Birmingham-Jefferson County Transit Authority from 2013- 2015. She also served as executive director of the Santee Wateree Regional Transportation Authority and Central Midlands RTA in South Carolina, and she was employed with the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) in various capacities. August also served on several boards of organizations.
She was the Chair of TRB's TCRP Oversight and Project Selection Committee from 2010 to 2011. At the time of her passing, August was serving as a member on the TRB Transit Cooperative Research Program's Project Panel on APTA-Related Research Activities.
TCRP's Gwen Chisholm Smith said, "The TCRP Team remembers Ann as a strong advocate for the TCRP program, a fearless Chair of the TOPS Committee, and for her love of capturing moments through photography. She was a kind spirit and will be missed."
