Clarifying Control of Automated Vehicles: Discussion Paper
4/17/2017 9:21:01 AM
The National Transport Commission in Australia has released a report that outlines the rationale for national enforcement guidelines of automated vehicles. The objective of the research is to clarify how regulatory concepts of control in the Australian Road Rules should apply to automated vehicles, which this report identifies as any vehicle operating with partial, conditional, high, or full automation.
Seismic Design and Performance of High Cut Slopes
3/16/2017 9:49:35 AM
The New Zealand Transport Agency has released a report that develops guidelines for seismic design of high cut slopes. These guidelines may address transportation issues that arise with topographical amplification and landslides due to earthquakes.
Quantifying the Economic and Other Benefits of Enabling Priority Bus Egress from Bus Stops
3/9/2017 10:40:09 AM
The New Zealand Transport Agency has released a report that quantifies the results of busses having priority when exiting bus stops to merge into general traffic lanes. Currently in New Zealand, busses do not have priority over other road users in general traffic lanes. However, when busses reenter traffic, any delay may significantly impact travel time reliability, schedule adherence, and the overall efficiency of network operations.
The Economic Impacts of Connectivity
3/8/2017 10:36:04 AM
The New Zealand Transport Agency has released a report that explores two economic models that identify the effect of large transportation projects on regional economies, with regards to gross domestic products and spatial distribution. This research focuses on improved connectivity between regions, and how the combined effects of reduced travel time and increased accessibility and connectivity would alter spatial distribution.
Particles in Road and Railroad Tunnel Air
2/26/2017 10:46:13 AM
The Swedish National Road and Transport Research Institute has released a report that analyzes the differences between particle concentrations in the rail and road tunnel environments. Because different particle concentrations and properties affect health, this report also seeks to understand particle sources and address problems that arise with high particulate levels.
An Extended and Updated Technical Evaluation of Wig-Wag Signs at the A83 Rest and be Thankful
2/22/2017 10:16:41 AM
The Transport Research Library has released a report that examines the efficacy of the operation of the wig-wag signing arrangements on a Scottish route. Wig-wag signs, which incorporate a standard rockfall/landslide red warning triangle, flashing lights, and a sub-plate that that warns of higher risks, were suggested as a way of managing landslides. The report is available for no fee after logging onto the site.
Transport Infrastructure
2/16/2017 10:14:29 AM
TRIP has released a report that provides an overview of research performed mostly in the European Union that looks at six groups under transportation infrastructure: planning; assessment; financing; construction; management and governance; and monitoring and maintenance. This report also considers overall trends in transportation infrastructure research; alignment of research with current policy; policy implications of results of the research; and any gaps within the research theme.
Road Tunnels: Complex Underground Road Networks
2/1/2017 10:49:59 AM
The World Road Association has released a report that analyses complex underground road networks to understand their surface occupation, existing geometries, and their growing demand in travel and mobility. The report can be accessed at no cost after logging into the site.
