Reducing Coastal Risk on the East and Gulf Coasts
The National Research Council’s Division on Earth and Life Studies (DELS) has released Reducing Coastal Risk on the East and Gulf Coasts, which reviews the coastal risk-reduction strategies and levels of protection used along the coasts to reduce the impacts of coastal flooding associated with storm surges. This report evaluates their effectiveness in terms of economic return, protection of life safety, and minimization of environmental effects.
DELS, like TRB, is a division of the National Academies, which include the National Academy of Sciences, National Academy of Engineering, Institute of Medicine, and National Research Council.
