The Council of Economic advisors, part of the Office of the President of the United States, has released a report that identifies the mechanisms, including those related to the declining number of vehicle miles traveled and the improved fuel economy of vehicles, that have affected the decline in U.S. petroleum consumption relative to both recent levels and past projections.
