2016 Class of National Associates of the National Research Council Includes 9 TRB Volunteers
The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine recently announced the 2016 Class of National Associates, which includes 9 individuals who have served TRB with distinction.
Many dedicated individuals serve pro bono publico on committees of the National Research Council (NRC), the operating arm of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine. Each year, several thousand individuals serve as members of NRC committees or serve as reviewers draft reports. This service is valued, honored, and appreciated by the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, as well as by the government and the public at large. The Academies' work in advising government and the public on matters of science, engineering, and health would not be possible without these contributions.
Among these many people are some whose dedication to our work is truly extraordinary. To recognize this extraordinary service, the Council of the National Academy of Sciences has established the honorary title of “National Associate” of the National Research Council. Membership in this group is offered as a lifetime appointment.
TRB’s volunteers recently honored include:
• James C. Card
• James M. Crites
• Thomas J. Kazmierowski
• Hani S. Mahmassani
• Sue McNeil
• Lance A. Neumann
• Brian D. Taylor
• Thomas H. Wakeman, III
• Johanna P. Zmud
TRB is one of seven program units of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, which provides independent, objective analysis and advice to the nation and conducts other activities to solve complex problems and inform public policy decisions.
