NASEM Report Release Webinar: Reducing the Fuel Consumption and Greenhouse Gas Emissions of Medium- and Heavy-Duty Vehicles
The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine will conduct a webinar on Tuesday, October 8, 2019 from 1-2PM ET that will discuss the efficiency of medium and heavy duty vehicles (MHDVs). Participants must
register in advance of the session.
MHDVs are a significant contributor to energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions in the U.S., and their fuel consumption has only recently begun to be regulated at the federal level. To provide scientific and technical advice on MHDV efficiency, the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 mandated the Secretary of Transportation to sponsor a series of National Academies studies on the technologies and costs for improving fuel efficiency in MHDVs. The goal of these studies was to provide periodic advice on establishing fuel economy metrics and standards that are appropriate, cost-effective, and technologically feasible for commercial MHDVs.
Committee chair Dr. Andrew Brown, Jr. (NAE) will discuss the key findings and recommendations in the
report and take questions from the audience. For questions, contact Kim DeRose at
kderose@nas.edu.
