U.S. DOT RD&T Releases 5-Year Strategic Plan

The U.S. Department of Transportation has published its Research, Development, and Technology Strategic Plan for Fiscal Years 2022–2026 - Building a Better Transportation Future for All. The plan will guide the DOT's transportation research, development, and technology deployment activities over the next 5 years, including the more than $5 billion in research activities funded through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.

  • TRB and the National Academies have been commissioned "to develop two guidance documents for airport practitioners regarding electric aircraft and hydrogen technologies as well as advanced air mobility," notes Aviation Week.
  • The number of e-scooter programs in the U.S. fell from 205 in January 2020 to 146 in August of that year, as noted in a report from TRB's Behavioral Transportation Safety Cooperative Research Program. Government Technology continues its coverage of the micromobility beat.
