Employee Telework Taking Flight at Airports Since COVID-19

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, airport operators developed new work models and strategies. Though not all airport-related tasks can be performed from a distance, many airports identified tasks that could be performed remotely.

Impacts of COVID-19 on Airport Work Models and Strategies (ACRP Synthesis 126) was released this week. Included in the report is a survey that found remote work can be a valuable tool for airports, but it is important to have a well-defined plan in place before implementing it.

National and state parks welcome millions of visitors annually, but seasonal surges can jam roads and overcrowd facilities. A TRB National Highway Cooperative Research Program project is harnessing smartphone data to develop recreational travel-demand models aimed at helping public lands transportation planners better forecast and manage congestion. "Peaks and Valleys: Forecasting Recreational Travel Demand," by Mark Bradley, Greg Spitz, Aaron Lee, Ben Swanson, and Theodore Mansfield, details the project in one of the feature articles in the May-June 2023 edition (Issue 345) of TR News, TRB's magazine.
