How to Participate This Year

The 2024 TRB Annual Meeting is being held in person. There is no virtual participation option for lectern or poster sessions, workshops, or exhibits. Some standing technical committees, however, will offer a remote option to participate in their committee meeting. Please check with any given committee chair to see if that option is available.

Support Upcoming Transportation Professionals

Organizations and individual donors can support the TRB Minority Student Fellows Program, which provides scholarships for students from Minority-Serving Institutions to attend and present a self-authored research paper at the TRB Annual Meeting. Make individual contributions as part of the TRB Annual Meeting registration process or online by clicking on “Make a One-Time Gift,” entering the donation amount in the "other" category, and specifying that it is for the “TRB Minority Student Fellows Program.”

Strengthening Tribal Transportation

Indian Country has over 160,00 miles of roads eligible for federal funding, yet transportation systems are underdeveloped. Additionally, thousands of miles of roads owned by Bureau of Indian Affairs on reservations are among the most unsafe and poorly maintained. During Native American Heritage Month, take a look at some of the resources TRB offers to strengthen the safety and services of tribal transportation.

People with Disabilities Needed in Transportation Workforce

In the transportation industry, individuals with disabilities should comprise part of a diverse workforce and can be included in recruitment and retention initiatives. "Opening Doors: Including People with Disabilities in the Transit Workforce," by Judy Shanley, Shayna Gleason, and Patricia Greenfield, offers an overview of strategies and is one of the feature articles in the July-August 2023 edition of TR News, TRB's magazine (Issue 346).

For more on the topic, please see TRB's blog article, Steps for Transportation Workforce Diversity Outlined in TRB’s Research, and many of our TRB Library Snap Searches.

TRB In the News

Crowdshipping.JPG

In a world where the demand for parcel delivery is continuously rising, crowdshipping has emerged as a promising concept. Crowdshipping is a delivery system in which citizens undertake occasional deliveries during their daily commute, and it's explored in a recent Transportation Research Record article, which is detailed at Sage Perspectives.

The National Academies workshop this week on the East Palestine, Ohio train derailment received media previews from CBS News Pittsburgh, the Steubenville (Ohio) Herald-Star, and others.
