New Research Could Improve Air Traffic Management

How do airports manage the hustle and bustle of multiple flights departing? How can the flight delays experienced during boarding or before take-off be reduced? An article in TRB's Transportation Research Record journal outlines a new way to schedule airplane departures at airports. It considers unexpected delays caused by airplane maneuvers and potential air traffic problems. The model successfully plans departures to avoid these issues without impacting runway efficiency. This could lead to smoother airport operations and better air traffic management. The Indian Institute of Science also details the research.
