TRB’s SHRP 2 Tuesdays Webinar: Assessment of Continuous Deflection Measuring Technologies (R06F)

As part of the SHRP2 Tuesdays Webinar Series, TRB conducted a webinar on June 24, 2014, from 2:00pm to 3:30pm ET that summarized the SHRP 2 project Assessment of Continuous Deflection Measuring Technologies. There was no fee to attend this webinar or other webinars in the SHRP 2 Series. A certificate for 1.5 Professional Development Hours (PDH) was provided to attendees who registered and attended the webinar as individuals.

The project produced a report that catalogues existing continuous deflection measuring technologies and assesses the capabilities of selected devices.  It also includes case studies that illustrate the application of the technology for supporting various pavement management decision-making processes and highlight potential future research needs in the area of continuous pavement deflection measuring technologies.

Webinar Presenters

  • Gerardo Flitsch, Virginia Polytechnic and State University
Moderated by: Andrew Horosko, Transportation Research Board

Webinar Outline

  • PART 1: Brief overview of the SHRP 2 mission, objectives of the Renewal focus area, and related SHRP 2 research
  • PART 2: Discussion of the SHRP 2 research assessment of Continuous Deflection Devices, capabilities of the most promising devices, value in pavement management decision making and needed technology improvements
  • PART 3: Question and answer session

The first 60 minutes of the webinar were for presentations and the final 30 minutes were reserved for audience questions.

Learning Objectives:
By the end of this webinar, participants were able to:
  • Define the techniques for the continuous use of deflection measuring devices with minimum traffic disruption;
  • Identify devices to measure continuous deflection; and
  • Apply the model training and network-level data collection for use in specific projects.
