This conference will show decision-makers in mid-sized metropolitan regions how investments in light rail and streetcars have addressed and can continue to address the greatest deficiency of transit in modern America: The failure to connect Americans to jobs, which now overwhelmingly are in the suburbs. Conference sessions will show the positive results being experienced in metropolitan areas that have embraced light rail and streetcar; and similarly, show how other metropolitan areas that have rejected these modes of transportation have fared.

This conference will explore new ways to plan, design, construct, maintain and operate light rail and streetcar systems. The host for this conference will be the Utah Transit Authority, a showcase of innovation in public transportation. They will be proud to share with you how their integrated rail transit system is connecting cities and suburbs with their communities and providing visitors car-free access to a wide variety of places to see and things to do.

Abstracts should be submitted for possible inclusion in the conference, through the conference submission website, no later than Wednesday, February 22, 2012. Abstracts typically have 150 to 300 words without tables or figures.  Abstracts or short papers should be no more than 3000 equivalent words (each table/figure will count as 250 words). Abstracts or short papers exceeding the word limit will not be considered.

Special issues of Transportation Journal(s) are also being considered as an outlet for selected papers presented at this conference. Authors of selected papers will be invited to submit full papers at a later date and these will be reviewed according to the standard procedures of the chosen journal.
