Published Resources

TRB disseminates transportation research results and technology information through an extensive array of publications. The Technical Activities Division contributes to the following publications:

  • Transportation Research Records contain technical papers that have been accepted for publication through a rigorous peer-review process referred by TRB standing committees
  • Conference Proceedings contain papers, presentations, and summaries of discussions from conferences, workshops, and symposia convened by TRB
  • Transportation Research Circulars present technical material considered to be of immediate interest to the transportation community
  • Webinars and Conference Recordings provide transportation professionals a conference-like atmosphere to share and receive information, while remaining in the comforts of their own offices. In addition to archiving the recordings of webinars, on occasion TRB also records and archives sessions at TRB specialty conferences as well as sessions from TRB's Annual Meeting
  • Research Pays Off articles highlighting research results that provide innovative, cost-effective solutions to important transportation-related problems
  • Field Visit Program annual reports serve as a major source of information collected and disseminated by TRB. Transportation professionals on the TRB staff meet on site with representatives of state departments of transportation, and with representatives of universities, transit and other modal agencies and industry

How Do You Publish Your Research Through TRB?

There are many ways to disseminate your research through TRB.
  • If publication in a peer-reviewed journal is the objective, submit your research paper for presentation at the TRB Annual Meeting and publication in a Transportation Research Record (TRR) or for publication only in a TRR (without a presentation at the Annual Meeting)
  • Less formal publications without peer-review include the conference proceedings and transportation research circulars which are normally the result of a committee sponsored event
  • Although not a technical publication, TR News, TRB’s bi-monthly news magazine, is a means of disseminating information as a news article to the general reader about timely research results on innovative and state-of-the-art practices in any mode of transportation
